A senior barrister says new evidence about a Swiss bank account in the name of former federal Labor minister GRAHAM RICHARDSON could lead to his prosecution for perjury.

The Australian Financial Review says it has documents which show Mr RICHARDSON transferred money from a secret bank account in Zurich in 1994 .. to a mystery man by the name of DENNIS JAMIL LATTOUS.

In 2003 .. Mr RICHARDSON told the Australian Securities and Investments Commission in sworn evidence that he had no Swiss bank accounts.

ASIC was then .. and is still .. investigating what happened to the proceeds of a 53 million dollar insurance claim after the Offset Alpine Printing premises in Sydney were destroyed by fire in 1994.

Melbourne criminal lawyer PETER FARIS QC says the new information could lead to perjury charges and if found guilty .. Mr RICHARDSON could go to jail.
